On Creativity

For over 10 years, I've been getting paid to be creative.

Creativity—some have it more than others.

I think it's like a killer instinct.

I wonder if it can be taught.

I don’t know how or why I’m creative, but I always was—is "different" the right word?

Not very, but enough to create work (with the help of others) that’s commercially viable.

What the world did was put me in my place.

Because—like most things—creativity has levels.

Of talent.

Imagination.

Sacrifice.

Honesty.

Guts.

The ability to handle all sorts of shit.

As a commercial artist, I'm at the bottom.

Above me are popular artists.

Above them are fine artists.

Above them are giants.

Slowly, over decades, I get the feeling that creativity is revealing to me its essence.

It's a thing hidden in plain sight.

A simple thing.

Creativity—it’s about creating.
